Being that there are a lot more women/men in the witnesses, at least the guys have more to choose from. Imagine what the women think?

Medicinal Mushrooms
by BurnTheShips inhttp://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/12/science/12psychedelics.html?partner=rss&emc=rss.
hallucinogens have doctors tuning in againby john tierneyas a retired clinical psychologist, clark martin was well acquainted with traditional treatments for depression, but his own case seemed untreatable as he struggled through chemotherapy and other grueling regimens for kidney cancer.
counseling seemed futile to him.

Burn, you posted something interesting. There are places you can go to have an experience with shrooms. They set the stage and help make sure you are comfortable. Shrooms are good and you never quite forget that experience. It is a place that is difficult to get to in normal life.
It's a shame they shut it all down with silly laws. I hope they aren't just looking to make a new pharmaceutical out of this. The real plant is necessary as it is nature's teacher.

I finally did it
by doublelife ini told my mom that i'm not going back to the meetings.
i wasn't planning on telling her that but i've been going through some hard times with my husband and just got fed up with her hounding me.
so she asked if i'll still consider going back to the meetings and i just flat out told her no and that it wasn't up for discussion.

Sometimes it is good to just get it out in the open. Nothing else needs to change, just no meetings. Hope things stay good between you and your mom.
Take a deep breath and then just relax.

He is a nice looking man, but his intellect, love for his family and above all else, his sense of humor is what attracts me to him. He is slowly letting more and more of that dry wit of his out and he can be so hilarious.
Hope he keeps getting more comfortable and we get to see the real him. Don't hold back, Barach, we love it!

Most-Ignored Scriptures by JWs
by Mad Sweeney inthe watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

Welcome, just a reader. That would be a good scripture to point out during a judicial committee (kangaroo court).

Is the vindication of God's name taught in mainstream Christianity?
by pirata ini always found it odd that god would be so fixated on his good name that so many others would have to suffer so that he could say "see, i was right!
i told you so!"..
is the vindication of god's name/sovereignty a teaching unique to jw's, or is this also taught in mainstream christianity?.

That quote is just plain disturbing. I had forgotten how self-righteous their writings are. Count me in with the folks that have some questions to ask of God.

Vindication of God's name or sovereignty is not taught in mainstream religion. Such a teaching does make God look rather petty. I believe the witnesses teach the need to vindicate God's sovereignty rather than his name. Not much difference.

So what happens when you don't vote in Australia?
by icer101 inthis is my first post, and to be honest, the main reason why i signed up here was to ask this very question:.
"what happens when a jehova's witness doesn't vote in australia?
do they get fined?

If you go to the link that Blondie provided, it says that religious objections are a valid reason not to vote.

Lazarus Returns From the Dead
by cameo-d inwhat did lazarus "die" from, anyway?
how can we be sure he was not in a coma?
how can we be sure this was not a staged event?

Those resurrections mentioned in the Bible would be some really good experiences. I do wonder why there is nothing written about what happened to these ones who experienced death and then returned. A witness would say because they were unconscious, but even that info would be important to share. So you died, tell us what happened? Isn't that THE question everyone wants answered. Makes you wonder.
I like to read about near death experiences, especially from young children. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross wrote a lot about death and dying. The witnesses teach that death is your enemy. I don't see it that way. Everyone dies. I have worked a lot with terminally ill persons and making peace with your own death is something we all need to learn to do.
